BIAGIO CHIESI was born in Tripoli (Libia), in 1954, to a Sicilian mother and father. In 1970, still a boy, he was uprooted from his native land following the events related to Libyan impositions, which forced thousands of Italians to return home. It was perhaps in those years that Biagio, endowed with a shy and sensitive spirit, felt the need to find a positive spiritual compensation in painting. Endowed with an undoubted innate talent, he began first as an autodidact and then refined himself by following and learning from his teachers and colleagues Masaniello Luschi and Aldo Mazzi, who took him with them as early as 1976 on outdoor pictorial excursions in the Tuscan countryside and seascapes. Subsequently Chiesi tried to give a personal imprint to his painting, however in the logical continuation of the Macchiaioli, post-impressionist and even pointillist tendencies. The artist is always present "at the front", when equipped with his palette he begins to sketch the picture, which then will finish in the studio. In fact, he loves to paint outside, in the nature of fields in bloom or near the sea. He is always open to criticism, especially if suggestions and observations come from competent colleagues and friends. In fact, modesty is one of his characteristics (rather rare in artists), but it is also coupled with a strong tenacity to continue the path undertaken. This apparent contradiction allows Biagio to acquire continuous artistic and spiritual enrichment. Observing his paintings we notice a lot of light, soft and suffused colors and a wise and refined graphic. All this makes the work clearly visible, both from near and far, satisfying the attentive gaze of the connoisseur. Chiesi has participated in many exhibitions, both personal and collective, in Italy and abroad, also winning several first prizes in national pictorial reviews. He currently lives and works in Livorno..
"A painter, Chiesi, of tactile atmospheres, translated with the alternation of punctual visions of the subject with drafts of filters of light enveloping the whole, more silent. Chiesi's style is made up of a search for landscape atmospheres, sincerely felt through the character of his colours, which reflect the profound need to be able to express himself at his best - Umberto Falchini"
"A painter firmly bound to reality, in many works he nevertheless penetrates dreamlike atmospheres, faced with a clearly recognizable and always controlled palette, with confident brushstrokes; in each work there is a careful search for synthesis, a desire to eliminate all that is superfluous.
Also noteworthy is the careful study of light and the evident love for nature so loved by his Macchiaioli and post-Macchiaioli spiritual masters - Luciano Bonetti"
"Evident in Chiesi are the references to "en plein air" and realist painting of the Macchiaioli school which influenced him from the outset; he uses a mixed technique based on the division of color thanks to which he manages to reproduce very precise climatic effects on the table.
The romantic and poetic soul of the artist is an integral part of his landscapes, which enchant and transport the observer towards a dreamlike and dreamy atmosphere - Chiara Di Cesare"
